Born and raised in rural Vermont, the author has an MA in English from Middlebury College and an MFA in creative writing from the University of Virginia, where he was a Henry Hoyns Fellow. Following two decades as a journalist in Vermont, Virginia, and Florida, he served as Vermont’s deputy secretary of state, as deputy state auditor, and as director of the state’s medical practice board. He is a massage therapist and has been part of the Contact Improvisation dance community for many years.

Finding My Place in the Dance: A Memoir, is his first book.
