Simki Kuznick is the mother of two mixed-race daughters who were raised in the 1970s in Berkeley, California, where she lived with her former husband, an Eritrean immigrant. Together they joined the group Interracial Pride to learn about and support Black and white interracial families. Kuznick’s writing focuses on what people with multicultural and multiethnic heritage can bring to our understanding of what it is to be American. Her poetry explores the personal and political interactions between cultures in Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe. She has an MFA in creative writing from American University and has had a long career as an editor for the US Government. She lives in Washington, DC.
