A Timely Book, and a Special Meditation

by Ginny Sassaman

In these intense times, I'm going to skip right to the bottom line: My new book, Preaching Happiness: Creating a Just and Joyful World, will be available much sooner than the late summer release date because my publisher and I  believe the book is critically important right now.

For three years, I have been writing and delivering sermons in various Unitarian Universalist churches on the interconnectedness between personal happiness, well-being and spiritual transformation on the one hand, and systems change to provide the structure for greater well-being for all (including animals and future generations) on the other hand. Together with my wonderful editor, Amabel Siorghlas, I have turned the sermons into a book.

This era of Covid-19, and all the behaviors swirling around it—generosity, sacrifice, greed, corruption, nobility, kindness, fear, creativity, patience, and just plain slowing down—are leading many to believe now is the time for genuine change, to finally create that better world we've all been hoping for.

How do we as individuals proceed? That is what my book is all about: a much deeper understanding of changes each of us can make to be our best selves, and work together for a better world. This book doesn't have all the answers,  -- but it will provide you with a lot of incredibly valuable and timely information, and may also help you frame the questions you need to be asking.

Preaching Happiness: Creating a Just and Joyful World is a road map for people of all spiritual traditions, including atheism. You can see what advance readers of the book say about it, and you can pre-order it here.

The books will be mailed (safely!) in a few weeks.

And now the meditation: Lisa Kynvi introduced "Breathing Peace," a sung meditation to the Unitarian Church of Montpelier, in January. I have found comfort in listening to it many times. Perhaps it will resonate with you as well.

Wishing you well,

Ginny
