Vermont Edition Features Samantha Kolber

Samantha Kolber, owner and publisher of Rootstock Publishing, was a guest speaker on Vermont Public’s Vermont Edition about the challenges and triumphs of independent publishing in Vermont. With host Mikaela Lefrak, Kolber described the difference between traditional and hybrid publishing models, and what authors can expect.

“At Rootstock, we look for a quality book, a well-written book, a story that’s going to move me, a story that might make me cry, make me laugh,” Kolber said. “I love the written word, I love books, and so I have to love it to want to publish it.” She noted that Rootstock receives as many as twelve submissions per month and publishes about twelve titles per year.

Other guests were Dede Cummings, owner and publisher of Green Writers Press in Brattleboro, and former New Hampshire Public Radio host Laura Knoy. Knoy is the author of The Shopkeeper of Alsace, which was published last year with Bedazzle Ink Publishing.
