Marjorie Nelson Matthews

Born and raised in Honolulu, Marjorie Nelson Matthews attended Punahou School for grades K through 12, Occidental College in Los Angeles, and the University of Hawai’i, Manoa where she graduated with a bachelor’s and master of arts degrees in communication. She has taught speech and communication courses in the University of Hawai’i and the University of New Hampshire systems. She also taught speech and nonfiction writing at Iolani School in Honolulu. 

Her work experience includes writing for US Senator Spark M. Matsunaga (D-Hawai’i), editing for Houghton Mifflin’s software division, and managing the Journals Division for the University Press of New England. Her poetry has been published in Rainbird, Across Borders, Bloodroot Literary Magazine, and the 2012 New Hampshire Writers’ Project’s Poetry in the Windows event. Hawai’i Calls is her first novel, and she is finishing a second novel with the working title, The Red Wheelbarrow

Nelson Matthews lives in Hanover, New Hampshire, surrounded by Dartmouth sport venues. She has two adult sons, both of whom leave her in the dust when it comes to trivia, and a husband briefly famous locally for his appearance on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?.
